What we do
Tourism is an integral part of life on the Isle of Wight, with over 2.5 million people visiting the Island each year. The opportunities for tourism to sustain and enhance the Island's amazing environment are enormous. At Island 2000 we hope to be able to help the process of developing sustainable tourism.
Sustainable Tourism successes have included helping establish BagTag, the Island's successful baggage transfer system, development of 7 "Rail Rides" cycle routes including the fully signposted Sunshine Trail, numerous walking trails and running Gift to Nature.
- Island 2000 works to promote sustainable and ‘green’ tourism for the future of the Island, its landscape and its wildlife.
- The work of Island 2000 in this field has found its way into national policy guidelines on good practice.
- Island 2000 runs Gift To Nature, a project promoting partnership between Island residents & visitors and the natural environment
- Island 2000 works every year to expand and improve upon the Island’s extraordinary network of special and themed walks, trails and rides.
